Already the 2014 AAU East Coast Nationals runner-up and AAU Middle Atlantic District Champions in 2015, Coach Britten’s talented National squad took another step in their impressive AAU journey during the 2016 season. Mid Penn Motion’s Elite 7th Grade Girls Team celebrated their 4th of July holiday participating in the Division 1 AAU National Tournament in Kingsport, Tennessee. The impressive opening ceremonies commenced the evening of July 3rd at the beautiful Dobyns-Bennett High School complex with 53 elite AAU teams from across the United States, representing the country’s top AAU programs.

Before thousands, our Mid Penn Motion Elite girls proudly entered the gymnasium with their bright orange and blue MPM Tournament Champion t-shirts and sharp looking orange cowgirl hats, carrying the Mid Penn Motion AAU banner. A throng of parents, fans and loyal supporters loudly cheered them on. After an inspirational speech from two-time Olympian Meg Stone, our Mid Penn Motion players exchanged MPM pins and gifts with other teams from Illinois, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Florida and players from across the country.

Several of the nation’s top teams were part of our MPM Elite Girl’s Pool, including eventual 5th place National D1 finisher and perennial national powerhouse Tennessee Flight Select and eventual 8th place National D1 finisher, Ohio SMAC. Many of the top D1 AAU National’s players go on to play at the collegiate level and the WNBA. Our talented Mid Penn Motion ladies battled some of the country’s best teams and players throughout their AAU Nationals experience.

Our MPM Elite Girls began their Division 1 Pool play early on July 4th versus the NC Greensboro Lady Gators. Despite being outmatched in size, strength and speed, our determined MPM girls battled hard, displayed a lot of tenacity and tremendous guts, before falling to the Gators in a hard fought battle, 40-35. Later in Pool play, our talented Elite MPM girls defeated GA Atlanta Select 51-47 in a tight battle of ever-changing leads. Our Mid Penn Motion ladies also faced TN Enplay Elite and GA Team Elite in competitive Bracket play games.

Throughout the D1 National Tournament, the MPM Elite girls faced teams with impressive size, strength and speed. Our talented girls fought hard each and every game, representing the AAU Middle Atlantic District and Mid Penn Motion with pride and distinction, battling the best teams in the United States all to within 10 point decisions.

In a weekend where they faced the best teams in the country, Mid Penn Motion was represented well by our Elite 7th Grade Girls in the Division 1 National AAU Tournament. Head Coach Kristi Britten summed up her girls tremendous experience at Nationals. “Their fight and hustle paid off against opponents that a casual observer wouldn’t think we could hold our own against . . . but we did! It was a fantastic learning and memorable experience from which we took many positive memories back with us to PA. I’m so proud of the girls!”

The entire MPM family is proud of our MPM Elite National 7th Grade Girls. They had a tremendous season and continue to excel at the highest levels of AAU basketball. Their AAU National memories will last a lifetime. Great job ladies!!!
